Why we build on AWS

VAELLA gives buildings eyes and a brain: we see what is happening and analyse the data with AI. Our solution uses vision sensors and AI to provide a real-time view of how people move through busy spaces, without identifying anyone. This helps metro stations, airports, ferry terminals, offices and shopping centres manage their spaces based on how they are used, so they can save costs and give the people inside a smoother, safer journey.

We operate in different countries according to each customer's requirements and AWS’s serverless technology helps scale Vision AI without adding costs to manage its infrastructure.

What building on AWS makes possible for our customers

One place to see the whole building

The VAELLA web app, and the interface building teams use every day, run on AWS, so they are available wherever teams work. Whether it’s the safety crew, the facility manager or the COO, teams can use the web app to see what matters to them: the safety crew sees crowds building up before they become a risk, the facility manager schedules cleaning, elevators and energy around how many people are using the space, and leadership follows trends across sites to plan staffing and investments.

"We use serverless technologies on AWS, which are highly scalable and very cost-efficient for us to run as a startup. It lets us scale without hiring large teams to manage services and infrastructure, and that means more competitive pricing for our customers. AWS also gives us a global platform, so we can operate in different countries based on each customer's requirements."

— Jussi-Pekka Partanen, Co-founder & CTO, VAELLA

Competitive pricing

We built VAELLA on serverless technologies on AWS. These services scale up when a building is busy and back down when it’s quiet, so we don’t have to run or manage servers ourselves. This means we can keep our own costs low, and we pass that on to our customers as more competitive pricing.

From sensor to screen, automatically

VAELLA’s Vision AI sensors use lidar technology in the building. They measure distance and see shapes and movement without capturing anyone’s identity. An NVIDIA Jetson computer installed on site turns those measurements into people counts, movement and dwell times.

In cloud deployments, the NVIDIA device sends the results to AWS over a secure connection. The data is processed there and appears in the VAELLA web app within moments. Nobody needs to export files, upload spreadsheets or wait for a monthly report. The building simply reports on itself, around the clock.

Prefer to keep everything on-site? You can.

Not every building can send its data to the cloud. Airports, metro operators and other critical sites have strict rules on where data may go, or simply prefer that it never leaves the building. For them, VAELLA offers a fully on-site deployment.

In fully on-site deployments, Vision AI runs inside the building on NVIDIA technology. Read more about the NVIDIA technologies we use in our products here.

Getting started

VAELLA’s Vision AI is currently running in several European crowded infrastructures. If you operate a crowded space and want to understand what your building is doing real-time, see our use cases or talk to our team.
